My Top Fashion Month Collections – SS19
Fashion Month SS19 is over however, there is still so much to talk about! I wasn’t as wowed as in earlier seasons I guess because there are so many changes going on. Some house are having a change of the guard, feminism and equal rights are at an all time high and some brands need a change. There are a few that really caught my eye Check Out my ab favs from each fashion week.
New York Fashion Week
Prabal Gurung
Tharu Athleisure – This collection’s colors is what took me over! All about his native of Nepal and their Tharu people who wear bright garments intertwined with athletic wear. Very innovative.
Cushnie
Sade’s Caribbean – Carly Cushnie is on her own and doing just fine! Using her muse Sade and a very Caribbean vibe very well, this collection is sexy and overall perfection. Her use of sleek lines and pretty prints is a bit of a departure from et Ochs however the feelings are still there, which is too just fine.
Naeem Khan
70’s Party – Naeem Khan took us to the 70’s in a very classy way. Fringe, prints and clingy silhouettes brought this collection to the basement of Studio 54 and beyond. The color, the prints! I would wear EVERY look!
London Fashion Week
Delpozo
Wisteria Glass – Joseph Font utilized the drawings of Fulvio Bianconi’s Murano glass to create pieces that were soft and strong and beautifully decorated. I really loved the sheer pieces decorated with flowers dripping with color.
Peter Pilotto
Tiki Nights – Punches of rich color and gold foil are right up my alley. Disco and Tiki Bars may go together, who knows but this collection definitely went all the way together. Peter Pilot and Christopher de Vos brought us some magic and whimsy with their prints on flowing dresses and smooth color on pants, dresses and jackets. Bravo!
David Koma
Movement… – David Koma referenced flamenco dancing in his inspiration for this collection and that influence can be seen in the circular skirts and hems of this sexy pieces. He also wanted to convey movement which he greatly achieved with silver disc that bounced with light. I would wear every piece, twice.
Milan Fashion Week
Moschino
“Pull Something Together…” Jeffrey Scott’s Moschino collection for SS19 was a bit cheeky (as always) but very fashion forward and stylish. He spoke about a dream of Gigi Hadid called him to tell him he was late for a show and to “pull something together.” where he aptly replied “ok, I’ll be right there.” Scribbles of black, pink, orang, yellow, on stockings dresses and hats. I just can’t get enough. Scott is known for being clever and I am never skipping my bills to grab the pieces however, with this collection, there is a pvc jacket with black scribble, I MUST have!
Etro
Surf for Joy – Etro was all about surfer culture and that California life. Hippie Chic and easy living. I was all for it. There is never a shortage of color and print at Etro and that makes me even happier with this collection. It’s just a wardrobe that I want to keep going on and on.
Philipp Plein
MJ Flow – Anything I mean ANYTHING that is an homage to Michael Jackson is a yes in my book. Philipp Plein’s inspiration was the King of Pop himself with buckles, leather and plenty of sparkle. There was even a performance by Chris Brown, what more could I have asked for?
Paris Fashion Week
Balmain
Paris Meets Egypt – There is no doubt in my mind that Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing has the chops to be called a design genius. His collection was “Paris Meets Egypt,” and the theme was there but not too there. It celebrated Paris and it’s link to Egypt through Napoleon, The Luxor Obelisk and so much more. The collection was just beautiful. Satin, gauzy cotton, pleats, metal. The man just knows what he is doing.
Maticevski
Though his theme was “florals that bloom in weird artificial environments.” It was so organically alive. The shapes of the garments were very flower like as well as the pretty prints and interesting colors. Dirt, leaves, petals, water, sky, bright lights. This is what I got from this collection and I was so pleased.
Alexander McQueen
Storyteller – Sarah Burton just continues to make her mark and this collection’s details are so amazing. The stories women are a part of “rituals: births, christenings, feedings, funerals. It’s about being strong and emotional, but also saying it’s okay to show your vulnerability; not to have to put a brave face on it.” This collection tells those stories and so many more. The embroidery just takes me over, so incredibly beautiful.
