FGI 34th Annual Night of Stars Gala ‘Mondern Voices’

Fashion Group International’s annual Night of Stars was held at Cipriani Wall Street with Simon Doonan returning as master of ceremonies.  Shining star and awarded Lord & Taylor Fashion Oracle was the oh so glamorous Kerry Washington.  Bringing on the noise was Paris Hilton who was amazing as DJ at the first ever Night of Stars after party attended the night with boyfriend Chris Zylka.  The evening was sponsored by Hearst Magazines, Lord & Taylor, Arcade Beauty, IFF, and LIM College.

“I don’t know a lot about what an oracle is but based on popular culture I do know they don’t say much, so I’m going to try to keep this brief,” Washington said in her acceptance speech. “When I first started working in this business I had an intuitive sense of how fashion could help shape identity because of the important role a costume designer plays in defining a character,” said Washington. “I’ve always said I don’t know who a character is until I know what shoes she wears because that tells me how does she stand, how does she walk, how does she move in the world. Samira Wiley was my first stylist, so she was the first person who helped me to start asking those same questions of myself, not just of my character—who I am, how do I want to stand and move, what is my expression of self?”  “I think it can be challenging at these times to be spend an entire evening talking about and celebrating all things pretty. But I want you to remember this, you in this room are the arbiters of beauty and that is no small responsibility. You give people the tools to express themselves and to live their identities, and that’s no small thing.”

Kerry Washington wore Mugler RS18 and stole the carpet. The mock tuxedo style dress is majorly chic! Black sequins and white structured front looked amazing. She went for a cool bob and popping lip with clear black cap toe pointy pumps. Werk Kerry!!

Lala Anthony wore Johanna Ortiz AW17 to the gala in form fitting black. She decided to forego the extra sleeve which I liked however the look was just a bit ill fitting for my liking. She is always GORG with a high pony and soft lip.

Daphne Guinness always goes for the over the top look and this Thom Browne SS18 look is all the way there. The sparkling, colorful dress with shimmering silver leggings and black books is definitely a wild look. However, Daphne brings a boatload of confidence and owns any look.

Grace Bol rocked out in an uber colorful SS18 Thom Brown coat and dress. She took it all from the runway and wore the knee socks and strings boots. I wasn’t sure about this look on the runway but I kinda love it on grace! Way to take a chance girl!
