WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards
WSJ Magazine’s seventh annual Innovator Awards celebrated people in entertainment and the arts and their achievements. Reese Witherspoon accepted the Innovator in Entertainment Award while Raf Simons head designer at Calvin Klein accepted the Innovator in Fashion presented by Marc Jacobs. Mark Bradford was introduced by a video message by Michelle Obama and choreographer Ryan Heffington accepted his prize with a wordless dance routine set to Sia’s “Titanium.”
Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer of Roman and Williams honored by Gwyneth Paltrow. “Their brilliance exists as breathing moments,” Paltrow said of the duo onstage. “They are two halves of one beautiful, soulful, creative brain, not just creating homes and hotels or massive installations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They are providing all of the context and feeling in which great moments can unfold—a first kiss, a perfect meal, a new beginning, or the sharp inhale of awe when you see something truly beautiful that you would have never thought of yourself.”
Raf Simmons; “What Raf brings to New York is creativity, sophistication, a voice, and a vision,” Jacobs told Vogue in the museum’s atrium before dinner. “I think that’s something that’s sorely lacking for the most part. We’re really lucky to have him.” – Marc Jacobs
Diane von Furstenberg
Reese Witherspoon & Ava Phillippe
Charly DeFrancesco, Marc Jacobs Naomi Campbell
Karlie Kloss & Joan Smalls
“I’m around 150 people all the time,” Reese Witherspoon, glittering in a Giorgio Armani minidress, told Vogue in a hushed back room of the Museum of Modern Art. “Someone has to speak up and tell people to behave sometimes, or encourage people, or inspire people; I hope I inspire people.” Reese Witherspoon was lovely in a black Giorgio Armani AW17 black dress with floral bust detail. Her hair was voluminous and curly and lovely! Reese knows how to do the carpet!
Joan Smalls is beautiful as always in black Nina Ricci AW17. The statuesque beauty wore a sequin open front dress with matching bra and black sandals. Definitely worth the Joan Stalk!
Contance Jablonski wore a cool Proenza Schouler look from their AW17 collection. The white sleeveless wrap shirt and black pants were just as chic off the runway as on. Her hair was a little limp and lifeless, I could have used some real waves here.
Olympia Scarry wore Calvin Klein AW17 with a very tight pulled back do. The look was a floral print sleeveless top with matching trousers which is I have seen on a few celebs. It’s actually growing on me.
Lauren Santo Domingo wore Giambattista Valll AW17 Couture on the carpet. It was a nice look, a tweed jack and mini skirt with a high split. I could have lived without the black bow and maybe something more with the hair. Looks a little blah.
Grace Bol wore silver printed Roland Mouret PF17. She kept the styling very simple as always. I could use a bracelet or a necklace on this girl and a pop of makeup color on that GORG chocolate skin!
Dasha Zhukova cute in a black dress covered in flowers. Ava Phillippe was radiant in black Balmain, looking just like her mother with voluminous blonde curls.
Gwyneth Paltrow wore an oversized Michael Kors AW17 jacket with skirt combo, pretty boring look, but I love Gwyneth. Naomi Campbell wore an interesting (and not in a good way)black one legged Gaultier dress…It was interesting to say the least and with fishnets, just barely hit the fashion mark. Where the miss lived was the chunky weird nose ring that looked like maybe tribal jewelry? She gets a pass, she’s a fashion model!
