Iconic Fashion Designer Hervé Léger Passes Away

Fashion designer Hervé L. Leroux (Peugnet), passed away today.  Leger created body hugging bandage dresses that rose to fame in the 90’s and ‘00s.  Leroux was born in Bapaume, a small town in the north of France under the on name Herve Peugnet on May 30 1957.  He studied sculpture and art history which he abandoned and worked as hairdresser and a milliner in the 70’s before meeting Karl Lagerfeld in 1981.  He worked at Fendi and Chanel alongside Lagerfeld before opening his first boutique on rue du Pélican in 1984.  He called it Hervé Léger his new name advised by Lagerfeld himself.  The boutique became a Parisienne shopping destination which specialized in hand-painted dresses and hats.  What a legacy he leaves behind, RIP and God Bless!

Hervé Leger designed the dress I wore to the @theacademy Oscars when @tomhanks won for Forrest Gump. I loved this dress. It was so comfortable. I felt like myself. I didn’t get to keep it. It was loaned. But, years later, I asked if the dress could be donated to an auction for HIV/AIDS and he willingly and generously gave it without hesitation. May he Rest In Peace. #herveleger #oscars #bandagedress
